Triple Crown History

The Triple Crown is the highest honor a race horse can attain. To win the Triple Crown, a 3 year old horse must win all three legs in one season: the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes. In the 144 years that the Triple Crown has been in existence, only 13 horses have shown what it takes to take home this prestigious award.

Justify

Justify was the most recent winner of the Triple Crown, coming in first place for all three legs of the challenge in 2018. Justify was trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by renowned jockey, Mike Smith. With this historic win, Justify gave Bob Baffert his second Triple Crown win and made Mike Smith the oldest jockey to win a Triple Crown.

Bob Baffert

Trainer Bob Baffert started his career in the Quarter Horse racing world and transitioned to Thoroughbred racing in the late 1980s. Baffert trained the first horse to win a Triple Crown in 37 years, and has since been in the winner circle with a Triple Crown champion twice.
